In these time with the corona virus going around its leaving a lot of people out of work and out of money so people are trying to go online and find "work from home" jobs so they can still self isolate but there's a new type of scammer that is going around praying on these types of people to try and extort money from them be aware.

How the scam works

What scammers are trying to do is advertise a "work from home" job either through social media or sites like indeed what makes this a scam is that they will offer a get rich quick scheme where within days/weeks you can earn thousands.

But this is not the case most of the time they will ask for a upfront fee to get you started of or they will give you a sign up link that will lead you to a phishing page where they will ask for you to put in your bank details for "proof of age" but there not what there trying to do it phish your bank information so they can pass the security questions required by the bank and transfer over your funds.

How to avoid this 

What you can do to avoid this is don't join any get rich quick schemes while that's nothing new, they will try look as authentic as possible so be really careful also people are creating phishing pages replicating real business, how you can spot that is a phishing site compare the url you got sent with the real business url if it doesn't match up its fake also follow these steps below.

• To help protect yourself you should:
• reject offers that come out of the blue
• get the company’s name and establish their credentials using the FCA’s Financial Services Register
• beware of adverts on social media channels and paid for/sponsored adverts online
• do not click links or open emails from senders you don’t already know
• be wary of promised returns that sound too good to be true
• take your time to make all the checks you need, even if this means turning down an ‘amazing deal’
• do not give out personal details (bank details, address, existing insurance/pensions/investment details)
• seek financial guidance or advice before changing your pension arrangements or making investments
