Coronavirus lockdown fine scam

The coronavirus fine scam

We all know in these times with the coronavirus going around and people being on lockdown there's always going to be someone there trying to make some quick money, in this case there doing it by text and pretending to be from gov.uk.

How the scam works

how this scam work is by scammers sending out texts in mass pretending to be from gov.uk and explaining how they have noticed you leaving your house more than once a week and you have been fined for doing this, and how you should click the link they have sent you to pay your fine.

Please don't fall for this new type of scam going around and do not click the link they send you it is a phishing page that has been made to replicate the real gov.uk site and if you have entered any details get in contact with your bank and even take it to the police.

what can the police actually inforce

In reality, the police can order members of the public to go home or leave an area, and they have the power to disperse a group, using ‘reasonable force’, and can make arrests if someone refuses to comply.

They can also fine you but it won't be through text it will be on the spot and Those who ignore the tougher restrictions could be hit with a £60 fine initially then reduced to £30 if paid within 14 days and another for £120 for a second offence.
